After Fernandos Indy car jaunt, everyone was hoping (well, I was) that Alonso would enter the Le mans 24 hrs (along with good ole Jenson Button), well, no news on Alonso competing in the world famous Le Mans 24hrs, it seems the racing gods have listened and Alonso will be competing in the Rolex 24hrs at Daytona.
The 56th 24Hours of Daytona is held on January the 17th - 28th 2018, and has been held since 1966, the race is run on the combined road course incorporating part of the world famous oval circuit, at a length of 3.56miles.
Fernando will be co-driving a Ligier LMP2 with Lando Norris who is the 2017 FIA Formula 3 champion, the third driver to round up the line up is Phil Hanson who is the Asian Le Mans LMP3 champion, so, it seems they have a strong team, with varying racing experience and ages.
The team who all three will be driving for is one of the fastest growing motorsports teams within the UK, they run GT and Sports cars, they go by the name of United Autosports based in West Yorkshire (i wonder if they ever use the little known Mintex test track in Yorkshire), they have been running since 2009 and have grown since then, managing to win the 2016 ELMS LMP3 championship, which is no easy feat, especially as the LMP3s are fairly new to Prototype racing.
I for one would love to see a positive result for the team and drivers in January, but before the race, testing of course has to take place, the test days are open to the public on January 5-7th 2018.
Let me know your thoughts or opinions on the subject, I for one would love to see Alonso and Button competing side by side again in the Le mans 24hrs.
