On the 30th of this month the ABB FIA released images of the new generation of Formula E single-seater racing car's, sadly they are no longer open wheelers and with the Halo they are hardly open cockpit either. The 2018/19 cars design is reminiscent of the Red Bull X2010 (minus the cockpit surround etc). The new Formula E car has been named the Gen2 and will run for the next three seasons, one of the biggest changes to the car is the performance with nearly double the range and storage capacity of the current Formula E cars. Due to these changes the cars will be faster and drivers will be able to complete a whole race without a car change. Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag said: “This car represents the future of racing", "When we started Formula E, our goal was to break the mould and challenge the status quo - bringing a revolution to motorsport. This next generation car represents that revolution." The Gen 2 Formula E is the first FE that has been designed the by the FIA, Jean Todt stated: "I’m very proud that the FIA has been at the forefront of this car’s development, it’s something new for the Federation, and the project has been a huge success," The official launch of the Gen2 Formula E car will be on March 6th 2018 at the Geneva motor show. No matter what your opinion is Formula E is here to stay, I personally am not a fan of the cars design or the series itself, but I believe its mostly a generational thing. Maybe the new generation of younger racing fans will connect with it and allow it to flourish and become a true motorsport. For more info visit http://www.fiaformulae.com
